Legacy gift to help family of CAF members reach academic dreams Helen Allen Stacey’s life mission to advocate for children and youth carries on through her support to the National Scholarship Program Helen Allen Stacey was a journalist, a wife, an honoree to the Order of Canada, the “fairy godmother” of adoption, an advocate for education and so much more. Thanks to her legacy gift to the Support Our Troops National Scholarship Program, military family members will be able to pursue post-secondary education without the fear of financial burdens holding them back. Helen’s newspaper column, Today’s Child, was syndicated six times a week in 22 daily newspapers in Ontario from the mid 1960’s until the early 1980’s. Through her column, Helen tirelessly worked for almost 20 years to find homes and adoptive parents for 11,000 children. Helen’s husband, Colonel (Ret’d) Charles Stacey, was a 35 year militia and army Veteran, military historian and University professor. Between Helen’s passion for helping youth and Charles’ passion for education and understanding of the military life, their commitment to the Canadian Armed Forces community has been realized through the Estate of Helen Allen Stacey endowment with Support Our Troops. This gift will support education for military family members through a yearly $3,000 scholarship for the duration of the endowment. The National Scholarship Program holds scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $5000.
